Hey, One day I was inspired by another photographer to give baby powder a shot. I've learned a bit and would make a few changes if I could go back.

Light
1) One flash was behind and off to the side aiming toward the camera. This lit the powder.
2) One flash on the opposite was side lighting the model

Mistakes
1) I had no fill
2) flashes power not great enough
3) camera exposure not bang on which lost me some data

Thanks and no I dont own a studio however I got in tight with a media center. I started volunteering for about a year and now they throw me some cash for the bit of work I do for them and I can rent out their space for half a day for 25 bucks. Acutally they gave it to me for $12.50 for this shoot which was ridiculous.

Having a studio space accessible, yours or not, helps so much with company image, meetings, etc.

well when you do go have a go at it. Tag team it with another photographer. Number one reason: youll make a big mess. If you are indoors you will be cleaning up for about 5 hours post shoot. It seriously gets everywhere. Also make sure the room is ventilated as baby powder stays more airborne than you'd think.

Also It helps split up tasks, as the model will need more attention. She needs instruction on how to move, a demonstration, then you have to dump a shit load of powder on her. While one does that the other can be grabbing test shots and adjusting lighting.
