So I don't know if anybody else thinks about pupil dilation but I do.

I find for a business profile page or website I make sure the light in the room is bright enough to make the pupils smaller

But a more personal photo that's less "in charge" looking and more "connection" oriented, I'll dim lights before taking the photos to expand the pupil.

Anybody else have weird things they focus on? :P

I always end up looking at the shape of the catchlight in the eyes, somehow a square catchlight in a round eye looks odd to me, or when you seem more than one catchlight in each eye it looks very odd to me.

oh yeah catchlights. I don't mind having 2 catchlights as long as one of them is much more faint. In my first image I'd say the position of the catchlight and strength of the one on the right is a bit distracting. I guess having one catchlight positioned higher up makes the source look natural.

One time i used a parabolic umbrella with a silver reflective inner side and didn't bother to attach the large diffuser in front of it and it looks sooooo bad like a silver spider crawling on his eye
