Hey people, well after watching a few you tube videos on this thought i would try it for my january project..
Used 2 430ex ii speed lights ( 1 borrowed of my father in law thanks jim :-) ) £18.00 fish tank. some white paper as the background prix sticked to some card board. canon 60D. 24-105 lens.
it took me hours ! trial and error as they say but towards the end i was getting some half decent shots.
thought id share with you guys .

Try other objects also, many you tube videos also used pepper and tomatoes.

It will be nice to see square shaped objects and the behaviour of light on them.

Keep up the good work my friend.

cheers tim, :)
well for the black back ground i used a £5.00 asda black bed sheet, white was A4 paper. i wanted to use my T2i but because i have only 1 wireless flash trigger i borrowed my father in laws canon 60D (while he was on holiday so didnt know i borrowd it) 2x 430 exii flash.
canon 60D has the wireless flash function while ours doesnt.

shutter speed around 1/160th iso 100
flash was quite low around 1/32 1/4

cleaned up in photoshop slightly

Dave, thanks for the added info. I also definitely wish the T2i could wirelessly control a flash or trigger them with the built in flash like nikon cameras. Granted i don't actually have an external flash yet..... but one day

haha that red ring certainly is flash! I'll probably look at getting a flash next year, I usually buy 1 piece of camera gear per year, usually the day after christmas. kind of a christmas present to myself.

i'm curious, what is the difference between the 580 and the 430?

Hi tim, its slightly bigger and heavier, more powerfull. the rear is the same as the 430 exii same functions etc. quick release shoe mount as has the 430ex ii.
if your like me just an amature and would rather have the money in the glass id go with the 430exii :)

red rings all the way !!!!

lol

Dave, I couldn't have said it better myself. Red rings are photography status haha. I'll probably look into a flash for next year as my photography purchase. Still need to buy a few small things, Black Rapid Strap and a proper tripod. 1 thing at a time.

shhhhhhhh ! i have the black rapid rs7 you will LOVE IT ! it wasnt cheap but man o man its the dogs doo dahs lol.
Bought the rs4 for my father in law, it was slightly cheaper and has straight webbing where as the rs 7 has a slight curve to it. both do the job just dandy.
no more struggling with the strap off your shoulder or feeling the weight around your neck.

Ya i definitely can't wait, I'll probably buy the sport 2. No point in buying it now though as I've just started another semester of school so I won't be doing much shooting until the end of april :( but the blackrapid will be a present to myself for completing another semester of school! or at least that's how I'll justify its purchase haha!
