I have been asked to take a local school classes photographs, each class will have 36 children which I will arrange in rows of 4 per class.
I plan to use my 50mm or 24mm-70mm on my D700 @ F/8 or F/5.6 for good DOF. If I wanted to use flash fill-in would it be best to use a shoot through umbrella or just use flash on camera.
What do you think.

Regards

Winston

I would use your flash as a main light off camera. Hopefully you have bleachers or something to stack them on different levels otherwise it won't look very good.

All depends what you are shooting and what you want to create. Softboxes are usually smaller, tighter patterns of light while umbrellas are wider and more diffuse.
