Greetings,

I'm in a discussion right now to shoot about 200 students, plus group shots and club shots for a local school. Currently they are just asking for some sample pictures and if I have all the necessary equipment, which I do have.

There asking how much I'll be willing to charge, but I asked them to offer me a price and we can negotiate from there. They don't want anything printed, so I'll just put everything on CD's for them. This could be a major hit for me if the parents love what they see I could be doing family portraits soon down the road if I get this job.

I'm thinking no less than $4000 for the school.

Please let me get your inputs.

Thank you

This is one of the hardest parts of working in photography, setting your price. My first question is how many days of work will it be, shooting & editing? If its 6 days and your normal day rate is $1000 then you would be losing money. What kind of school? How many students?

It's a grade school with about 200 students. Currently we're just talking via email and they asked for a price.

With me being stationed in South Korea it's really hard for me to get big jobs cause of the language barrier, so I don't want to go to high and scare them off considering this could be a big money maker. This is only part time for me.

Well to tell them make an offer first, looks as an unprofessional in customers point of view I think.

You have to go to them with a price and tell them price is nogotiable due to changes or services asked

How does this look.

I don’t know who else you’re considering, but let me break down what you’ll be getting and why I charge what I’ll charge. All prices will include basic editing (white balance, sharpness, color correction)

Equipment fee (toll on equipment for a large shoot) = 150,000

200 students @ 10,000 won per student = 2,000,000 won (will take five photos a piece and pick the best one, they may blink or something)

Each group and club shot will be @ 25,000

For full rights and full resolution photos = 500,000 additional charge (Photo’s will be limited to 1MB for yearbook printing)
