I have a Canon T3i with a 18-55mm kit lens and:

  • 55-250mm lens (Canon)
  • manual speedlight flash (third party)
  • 3 umbrellas (1 white, 2 black/silver)
  • 2 light stands
  • 2 tripods
  • set of reflectors
  • 32GB and 8GB memory cards

I'm thinking of getting a 50mm lens, but is there anything else I should get first?

What do you shoot? Or what are you trying to accomplish? Or budget?

Anyhow I'd really suggest some fast glass. 50mm is a good cheap lens, and I think everyone should have one.

Mostly shoot portraits and parties, so I think a 50mm would be a good choice too.

I have light sockets on the light stands and I mount the flash to the second tripod. I have different umbrellas (white and black/silver) so I can swap out which umbrellas I want to use.

Well.. after reading this topic.. i can only say two things.

How can you ask this if you don't tell us what you want to create. You are the only one who can tell if you are touching limits of gear. And if you do that, thats the moment of upgrading!

And if you have some money laying around.. Upgrade your glass to full frame glass. They hold their value and maybe for you body in the future.

Greetings,
Roy
