Just opened up a D5000 last night and charged the battery, installed the SDcard, formated the SDcard its a SanDisk 16GB...and I keep getting the error msg...
"folder contains no images".
I checked google and found the problem but no real solutions that worked.
The SDcard I pulled and tried in my wifes point and shoot Canon and it works fine. I tried to reset the Nikon but it didnt appear to actually reset the camera.

I contacted Nikon and got the same tips...I responded back telling them I have tried all they suggested....and I havent heard back yet.
Any help would be great...I start my photo group/class Tuesday...and looks like I wont be going with my Nikon....first time with one and I get a turd...love my luck lol. :P

Andrew,

Try to format the SD card through the menu of the camera.. maybe that works...

Greetings,
Roy

P.s. Memory card locked? There is a little lever on the card which might be on locked..

Hi there Andrew,

Is your camera recognising the card? Do you have tried another card?

Very odd i have to say. Did you bought it at a camera store or did you bought it online?

Roy

Got it online.. no local camera stores near me anymore....I updated the firmware as suggested...nada....I will pick up another SD card and see if that helps...funny though the SDcard I have now my wifes canon has no issue with it...looks like she got another SDcard for it haha.

Wauw Andrew,

I feel very sorry for you. I really don't know what to say. Does the camera shoot when you connect it thethered (hehe) to the computer?

Did you dit a factory default on the camera? Formatted the card on the computer to FAT instead of NTFS (Dont format to NTFS)..

And the other option.. send it back.. if you got it new by a store, then just send it back. If you bought it online and its second hand.. try to get your money back through your payment method..

Greetings,
Roy

Wont shoot when connected to the computer...did my format with the camera not sure how to do the FAT or NTFS lol.
Someone mentioned maybe its in Demo mode? I have no clue on that....Im looking at sending it back...its a referb...wife never has had an issue with referb..I try it once and all hell breaks loose lol. I think I can get it replaced with the same kind or something else...pretty sure its a 30 day return.

My first guess is check card compatibility. 16GB cards might not be supported by the 5k.

Good call Greg, but he tried the card of his wife POS camera... so i think he narrowed that down.

But you can always try..

Greetings,
Roy

BTW, a call to Nikon done?

thats the approved list of card direct from the D5000 manual , if you look in the book if gives a list of error message codes might help if you check this it will give a greater search scope .

Im not saying im the best but im in the top 1

Im using a card they suggest...have actually tried 4 cards from their list now....and the error msg code is just that nothing to actually help fix it. I have seen a few ppl post this problem online...none ever reposted how they fixed it lol
