Canon 5d Mark III
Canon 5D Mark III here.
Canon T2i (550d) 24-70 f/2.8L, 50 f/1.8
I have also heard that people consider the D800 not much of an upgrade from the D700.
The real changes or upgrades from the 700 to the 800 (purely in terms of numbers) is:
•12MP vs. 36 MP
•No video vs. video†
•1,005 pixel meter vs. 91,000 pixel meter*
•Good 51 pt AF vs. slightly improved 51 pt AF**
•D800 can now AF at F/8††
•Single CF vs. CF+SD (same as 5DM3)
•95% VF vs. 100% (same as 5DM3)
•Same ISO range as D700 just triple the resolution
•3" screen vs. 3.2" (same as 5DM3)
•Expeed 2 vs. Expeed 3 processor (Digic 4 vs. Digic 5+, 5DM3)
*Same meter as Nikon D4
**Same AF system as Nikon D4, 5DM3 same AF as 1Dx
†D800 uncompressed video out through HDMI, N/A for 5DM3
††Canon 5DM3 AF to f/5.6
So to me, the D800 is a healthy upgrade from the D700. And after all the D800 is priced at 3,000 body only and the Mark 3 at 3,500 body only, maybe a deal breaker for some.
So I will go as far as saying the 5DM3 seems like a small upgrade from the 5DM2 (especially for 3,500 USD), but the M2 is still a fantastic camera, as well as the Nikon D700.
