Lens for graduation shoot

Hi All!
My son is having his high school graduation next month and I am thinking about what lenses will be the best for this event. I have a Nikon D7000. The event will be held at Littlejohn Collesium (Clemson Tigers basketball). Distance I will be from stage is unknown. I assume 1st come 1st serve seating, which means I will be early! Lighting also is an unknown.... I am assuming less than favorable.

I plan to rent a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 vrII for starters.

Would like anyone to offer an opinion on other lenses that would be useful? Do you think the 70-200 is a good choice? I don't mind taking several different lenses with me! Also, can use a recommendation on a good lens rental company. never rented before.

Thanks!

Get a wider lens for group shots. Get an SB 700 and bounce it off the ceiling. Extra light will help you get a deeper DoF for group-shots.

This is a good lens to cover most of what the 70 - 200 can't
