Watch Event Photography - Golf + My Video Rig on YouTube

Another week, another event!  This time I was photographing a Golf Outing at Lancaster Host Golf Club in Lancaster PA.  This event wasn't a money making event, rather a benefit for Lionville Fire Co.  I photographed the event to give the sponsors some great photos of themselves having a great time.

Video Rig

  • Nikon D3s
  • Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 or Nikkor 14-24 2.8 for last segment in golf cart
  • Sony UWPV1 Lavalier Microphone
  • Manfrotto 208HEX 3/8-Inch Camera Mounting Platform Adapter
  • Manfrotto 804RC2 Basic Pan Tilt Head with Quick Release Plate
  • Hoodman HCKP H-LPP3, HMAG3.0, HCrane
  • Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp
My video rig was much easier to use than having a tripod.  Obviously I would not be able to use it without something to attach it to like my golf cart, so its more of a specialty setup.  The Hoodman/D3s/lenses/Sony Microphones are my standard for audio and video.  They work great...only exception is when I get too far from the camera the mic gets fuzzy as you see at a few points in the video.  I am guessing the range is about 50'.

Photography

Events like this give you great exposure and let people know you're out there.  Every time you shoot you don't need to get paid, so keep that in mind.  Make sure to have a stack of business cards handy, I handed out quite a few.  Make sure they are attractive and don't use any of the premade designs, everyone has seen them 100 times.  I design my own with photos or logos on them and have them printed at gotprint.com.

I hope you enjoyed this video - keep the comments coming and keep shooting!

Cool video Greg! I like how you drove with the camera mounted on the golf cart. Lots of good info that can be applied to any action type of photography. Dang that golf course sure looks nice!

Great video, just before the ball came close to you I was going to ask weren't you standing straight into their shot? :) I like the way you were talking while driving us through the golf course. After the video there was too much blank, I kept waiting there might be something else...just a humble suggestion if you don't mind, start your videos with a 1-2 lines summing up the video and then introduce yourself starting with the website and then your name. Just to give you a unique identify may be. Keep up the great work!

Seeing and listening to you videos always reminds me of a former teacher of mine (I guess it was physics): very entertaining, but with a bunch of invaluable informations. I´ve seen this video three times now and and woth it to think about it again and again. Great, Greg! Thank you very munch.

Greg, I just joined you one this website and was a follower from your previous work. Your teaching techniques and the way you convey the information to the viewer is excellent. After watching these three vids (fireworks, golf and portrait) I can't wait to put what I've learned to use. Well done!
