I have received a few messages and questions from readers about my absence from froknowsphoto.  I got word a few days ago from Jared that he doesn't want me to post on his website or nurture the community I started in July anymore.  I don't know if that will change in the future.  I am also unsure if I will start my own series of photography videos or not.  Its a lot of work, no matter how rewarding it is when I see others get so much out of it.

Everyone is still welcome to contact me with questions or photography advice, the best place is on my facebook page.  If or when things change I will definitely let you know though all the usual social media channels.

[EDIT] I've read all of the comments so far and I need to make a few things clear.  I encouraged Jared to join a business networking group called LeTip in his area for quite a while before he finally joined, with myself as his sponsor.  From that group he met a few people and ended up photographing an internet marketing event in DC.  Then at that event he decided to setup the blog and videos on YouTube.  Many other ideas that the website uses were/are mine.  The main one is the forum and budding community of users.  Jared decided to create the website and I had ideas, knowledge, technical experience, photographic expertise and drive help it succeed.

[EDIT 3]  Thank you all for the well wishes.  It seems the original thread was removed from the forum, here are the posts.

TOPIC: So Greg is gone??

TomShootsPhoto: Greg just tweeted:

End of the line... Why I've been absent from @froknowsphoto ow.ly/4IiaH

On his website he wrote:

So i guess that he won't be on the site anymore??? Or will he still be on the show? Because the last show we have seen him was #8....

What do you think ?

Panda Jerk: That sucks, i like Greg way better than Jared.

TomShootsPhoto: Yeah that really sux. I assume that Jared "fired" Greg? ...

Panda Jerk: i have a feeling this isn't going to go over real well within the community. I have seen a lot of people post they like Gregs videos better... Like they connect better to Greg....we'll see.

Gampfer: I completely agree. Greg offered a technical side that Jared fails to deliver. I often feel that Jared's opinions and biases come into play and affect the knowledge he is trying to convey. Greg is clearly a technically oriented photog and is able to back up his knowledge with principle and thoughtful opinion.

Greg, you will be missed.

-Gampfer

JGiraud: Agreed...This is not how you treat your friends...

TomShootsPhoto:  Greg was different, he was more helpful than the FRO, sometimes it feels like that the fro just want views like "plz rt" at the ends on his tweets.

Susan: This indeed sucks. Big time.

TomShootsPhoto: Wonder what happened between Jared and Greg .... Or why Jared did so.

Panda Jerk: IMO Greg has more to offer. He made the videos that actually help people. I watch Jared's videos for purely entertainment.

TomShootsPhoto: Agree.  I wish Greg would've made a video about histograms, Jared can't read them.

Panda Jerk: LOL shoot i can make a video about histograms! PandaJerkKnowsPhoto.com.gov.co.uk.co.ca.net.org.edu?

TomShootsPhoto: Hahaha that would be great

rrowan: This is sad. If this is permanent than it will hurt this site. When I first found this site I just wanted to listen to the Fro and later I warmed up to Greg and began to understand the more detail he was offering. Jared is great and fun but at times Greg provided a lot more detail.

Too much contrast Jared

Wonder how long this topic will stay open?

Rick R.

TomShootsPhoto: Long i guess .... Greg know the technical sid to photography, which comes very handy.

Dave 123: Greg is watching this topic yet he won't reply. It's sad what is happening and it won't be the same without greg.  Dave

TomShootsPhoto: Greg, we will miss you.

ff112173: I caution all not to compare apples and oranges. I will truly miss Greg but I won't slam Jared for the separation because I am not privy to the details of the situation. I wish Greg well and will continue to follow him as best I can through Twitter and Facebook.

Let's all wish Greg and Jared well going forward and hope the situation between them is resolved. They have different styles of shooting and teaching that we all can learn from. We should be careful not to judge their personal or business relationship.

sic0048: I agree as well. Jared is great, but doesn't like getting into the technical aspect of photography (sometimes to his detriment IMHO), were as Greg was willing to teach some of the more technical aspects (like lighting and editing).  I certainly have learned more from Greg's video and from other forum members than I have from anything Jared has done.

hashboogie: Wow that sucks. I wonder what happened. Hopefully Jared will address this soon.

TomShootsPhoto: me too.

Bmoran: I think the site will suffer. For what ever the real reason for the split, I strongly erge Jared to reconcider. Jared is good at what he does and Greg is good at what he does. Together they make this a terrific site

sahguerreiro:  I really don't mind who's better, who makes better videos.. All parts will loose, specially the two of them 'cuz they are friends for a long time, and it's just sad to know that something is pulling them apart.  All we can do is wait, and hope they find a way around anything that's happening. And give Greg support if he starts a project on his own.

PXF: I thought I noticed a bit of something in the last video Greg was in. Jared and Greg seemed to have a disagreement on the formate of the show.

Greg liked the live format and Jared liked the recorded format. I felt that they were in a real disagreement and this may be an issue.

Also in one the raw file edits Jared converted to B&W using a third party add-on and Greg gave him flack for not watching his light room videos. So who knows what the hell happened but it sucks.

I'm sorry but Jareds talk at the apple store was not the best option for a fro show. I did not watch the whole thing because I felt uncomfortable watching.

I though they made a good team because they kept each other in check.  I hope this does not become a purely Fro marketing site which seems to be gaining steam.

TomShootsPhoto: Whats bad is that Jared doesn't let Greg do what Greg started....

He wrote that on his site:

"I got word a few days ago from Jared that he doesn't want me to post on his website or nurture the community I started in July anymore."

And the site was perfect when they were doing it together, i agree with everyone.

Shaggy:  Damn...

Don't get me wrong, I love Jared and his method of thinking in the world of photography. Thinking outside the regulated lines.

But!!!, I do feel that Greg is 50% of the driving force behind the success of the video's and posts. Greg has the ability to show and teach us Normal people things that

Jared doesn't go in to. I love how Greg chooses his subjects end explains so people can actually benefit from the techniques and improve themselves.

I hop they can get back as the great team they are, if not it's a big los for the Fro site and show. I do hope Greg finds the time and energy to create his own informative vid's and chat's.
Life is to short for arguments, act adult and get over it. Shame a good show might receive damage this way...

kojack_0: In my opinion, Jared is too opinionated when it comes to photography. Though he does help beginners get in the right track, that's all there is to it. Greg went beyond that and added the technical help.

I don't know, but sometimes I don't watch videos Jared makes because it's almost always repetitive.

TOPIC: Dissapointed.

sahguerreiro: Well, now we know the thing is really ugly.. they deleted the topid about Greg..

vinnyvette: What happened?

Panda Jerk: i dont want to get too involved. But if greg leaves. I'll be leaving for a while too.

It's his website, I was the webmaster and redesigned the site a few months back. I also had the forum/community idea back in July. As for the why I can't answer that.

I love your work Greg. It's true that the duo you made with Jared was great, each one of you had his own part to assume, you were the technician and Jared the artist, but this changes nothing to the fact that we still learn from you both.

I ment that we learn all what is photography techniques from you, I started my comment by saying that I loved your work and I aim to achieve your level of composition and playing with light in a way that flatters the subjects without even noticing that strobes had been used to realize the shot... this is the stile I just LOVE!

Damn....

Greg, I must say it is a shame you are not going to team up ( for now? ) I hope things work out, professionally, as well as personally.

I really enjoy your video's and learn a lot from you. It would be a great miss if you were to stop making them. But understandably, putting bread on the table has the priority.
I do hop you will still post the occasionally video and web-based talk. Jared might be "The Fro" But remember you are "Big" Greg Cazillo, a big man, with an even bigger heart and an understanding of photography... And the gift of explaining it so we "the People" can understand and learn from it.

Greg, I hope to see and here from you soon, you're to good a guy to be missed.

Thanks again, and all the best to you and yours.

Clearly jared is an immature guy. He got a little bit of fame and his head blew up bigger than his fro could handle. Greg is clearly the better, more professional, and better spoken photographer and business man than jared will ever be. When I first started watching videos of the Fro I thought it was fun and liked his honest opinions regarding gear etc and to a certain point he was right regarding don't buy cheap gear. But as a pro he does not know as much as his viewers think he does. I think most of his fans are beginners who look up to him and take everything he says as gospel truth. He in my opinion is quick to cut people down if they don't agree or if he thinks the photos they send are not up to scratch. Most of the people want help and advice with their photography, not to be put down. I have been a photographer for 35 years and still learning from others with fresh ideas etc. I feel Greg really tries to teach us and help via his tutorials and is straight to the point with easy to understand videos. On the Fro Show it states "Staring Jared Polin" Believe me, your no star and its only your viewers that give you the ratings. It seems all he wants to do is improve his status by selling T shirts amd Fro gear.

I won't take sides, because I really don't know what are the reasons that divided this team. All I'm saying is that you have my full support on this. I think you should continue what you were able to do while on froknows, you should keep posting your tips, tricks and tutorials for the beginner and pro photographer, we'll really appreciate it, and watch it or read it. I'm REALLY DISAPPOINTED by this. You guys actually complimented each other, but now I know who was the better teacher…You are, by far, the more knowledgeable of the two in my opinion. When I watch your videos, I actually learn something. When I watch the other guys, I laugh at his mistake and constant repeats. How many times can you repeat the same than over, and over, and over, and over. Because of that, he's videos double instead of being half the time they should be. Yeah, he gives advice, but I LEARN from you.

Comment was too long so here's part 2

I took my first flash photo at night because of you and made it to the center piece of a magazine. You helped me understand things a bit clear and why having options are important. I also feel that he pushes all these products to make extra money off of his followers. I would never even consider buying anything at all because he makes it seem that if you stop buying the products, he will stop giving information. Really? Seems a bit cocky. lol …and let's not talk about that HORRENDOUS Apple show. WTF was he thinking? He had almost no right answers and what he gave you can find online anywhere else. I wish you the best of luck Greg in any future endeavors you may have...

Sorry for this happening. Greg you are the reason I watched the Fro channel, I'll likely unsub. Jared's ego is too big and he is often not constructive, like others have said: he cuts down people who don't agree. Besides editing is not just about 'boomifying' contrast.

Very unfortunate news. Like others, I have felt Jared's popularity was getting to his head and his videos in the past month have been going downhill. Jared may be great at introducing beginners to photography, but you are by far more technically proficient and a better long-term teacher. I will follow your future work wherever you go and may possibly drop Jared altogether.

Last thing: Jared deleting the Greg discussion on the forum was a really immature move. His "personal statement" video isn't much better. Reading a piece of paper... really?

Personally I like both Greg and Jared's videos, you both have different styles and you balanced the site out very well. Even if Jared is a little cocky at times.

I can say this though, as others have. I thought it was very immature of Jared to remove the original forum post, and also unlike Greg's Facebook page.

Greg, honestly, without your input on the show, the viewer-ship is going to seriously decline dramatically... The show is continuing to get more and more commercial and pushy and less educational and entertaining--a t least that's how I see it. Like others have mentioned... that Apple Store video that Jared did was awful... just really bad. It's showing that he really only has one way to edit photos (b&w then pump the contrast with a few color photos here and there) and one mission: sell more stuff. Y'all's dynamic on the Live show was awesome after you worked out the kinks.

I've been a fan since September or so and I've learned a tremendous amount. My photography has improved 1000 fold and my wife and I have started our own wedding videography company as a side job (4 clients in 1.5 months already!) and I attribute a lot of my success to you guys.

I really hope you guys make up. If not, please do us all a favor and stay an active teacher on the web.

I highly doubt Jared deleted the threads himself. More than likely it was one of the couple admins who pretty much govern the forums. Anthony would probably be the likely candidate. Some of the admins / moderators are quick to delete and or close threads if they get some heated discussion going on.

No matter the circumstances, I hope that it's not the end for Greg and Jared to be seen together and to work together. Maybe they need a breather for a bit. I completely know how it is to have different opinions when running a web based business or media outlet. Going into business with your friends can sometimes be a tough journey.

Dear Greg,

I'm sorry to hear what's happening. To be brief I just want to say please make a YouTube channel, it's so much more convenient and more fun! Keep doing the kinds of videos you did! I will subscribe! You don't need to be as fun and talkative as Jared! I only care about what you share and teach!
And to be honest with you I was getting tired of Jared's constant "boom boom pow" Raw edits... I wasn't really learning! Teach us more about flash, how to review used gear, etc... And as you put it once in his vid, yes, he has that cocky tone in his voice that was also getting tiring sometimes...

Sorry it had to come to that Greg. It does look like you were used.

I had already lost interest in the Fro's website in the past few weeks, mostly due to the fact that the contents seems to repeat itself and to a hike in advertising.

And now this... This is the end of FKP for me as well.

I'm hoping you will start something on your own, hopefully not as big as FKP. Your series on flash photography was excellent has really got my interest in strobist work started...

So thanks Greg and the best of luck to you!

You and Jared evidently go back a long time. Unfortunate that an endeavor such as this would become a shoehorn between you two.

I search for "Greg Cazillo" on youtube . . . the result was some videos signed . . . JaredPolin . . . U do not exist unless under the "JaredPolin" brand. It is so sad . . .
Man, make your own youtube channel and sign with "Greg Cazillo". Make your own name heard on the web. We'll all subscribe, be sure of that ! Go, Go, Go

A large part of the Fro subscribers like me did so to listen to you and not Jared. It would be a shame not to build on what you achieved and the large following you now have. Big respect big man!

I have seen these types of incident in many businesses. I am a CTO for a hedge fund. When the dynamics of a business change this dramatic it is never good for any business. I believe you should pay for top talent and Greg is top talent. The chemistry on the show was perfect. The question Jared has to ask himself is do I want to own 100% of the business and grow it to X. Or can I afford to give a piece of the business to grow the company to x + y with a proven concept for business. We know it works and the growth in the past 10 months was amazing.
P.S. Feel kind of weird wearing the “I Shoot Raw” shirt. When Jared wrote

what “I shoot Raw” branding means and explained about how it applies to you as the photographer, it just means a lot more to me. It meant a great website and a business that had great chemistry and dynamics with 2 individuals that I was proud to support. I personally don’t like buying shirts that say anything on them; however, I felt with all of the knowledge that I received the Greg and Jared I had to support the business.

It's too bad that you guys couldn't work things out.

Honestly, I'm not really a fan of Greg's but he's a good teacher and he'll have no trouble building his own audience.

And everyone here should remember that there are three sides to this story - Jared's version, Greg's version, and what actually happened.

Emotions run high when business goes sour.

Greg's series on flash setups was instrumental in me shooting 5 gigs in the last month. His explainations were spot on, detailed and a perfect balance of technical and straight talk. I learn from Greg. Greg explains were Jared would say "whatever, I don't do technical. I'm just awesome. Do what I do." Greg, you will be missed and I would 100 percent support a series of videos by you, especially on the technical elements of photography.

Please please please start your own site. And please don't take too long. It seems like you were the brains behind the operation and he was the frontman. Some claim you to be a little dry but I would take dry information over flashy fluff any day. Jared was starting to love himself too much. Much like when the lead singer of a band fires the guitarist who was writing all the music. Dumb move on Jared's part.

...Jared the artist...

Yeah, I disagree with that sentiment. I believe Greg is a superior artist when it comes to editing RAW files. I like a good amount of contrast, but I dont immediately jack the contrast to 100 on every single photo I edit. Jared has his own style and I dont fault him for that. What I do fault him for is calling out people for not shooting RAW and making fun of them, and at the same time not fully understanding how to use Lightroom proficiently. I mean whats the point of shooting RAW if you dont know how to properly use the software to develop those files? Just saying "You guys know I like a lot of contrast so lets jack that all the way up" and "Fill Light? Hmmm..lets see what that does..OOOOH AHHHH..er NO Fill light is GAY" sounds like a 15 year old trying to teach. Jared has a lot of growing up to do.

I've been following Jared for quite some time, since more than a year before he launched the Fro site, and was about his 3rd subscriber, and only regular viewer, and I have to say... He's kind of turned into a jerk. He used to be a nice guy, but he let being the front man of the site go to his head. I remember him and Greg being friends before the site when he'd mention "My buddy Greg does this when he shoots". He used to speak really well about him and say that he knew a lot of technical info and such. I can't believe that he just kicked him off everything like that, and worse, that he deletes all the posts related to the issue on the forum. He's changed a lot in the last year, and it's been for the worse.

Just for starters: the fro show just died after you (got) left.
The last version from the Apple store was terrible IMO. Especially the sound was missing from all of the guest, witch I stated on the Facebook site. Then Jared replied that I was harsh and deleted my post because I was being critical about the show?!
Jared doesn't like critique of his pictures, his RAW edit (you know that), so he just started sensoring everything?!

I really liked the site and your cheerful friendship, but that's kind of gone now.

What bothers me the most is that he's not objective at all. Everything Think Tank makes is the best, Nikon, Black Rapid etc. I understand that they are sponsors, but it's just too much.

I really hope that you will solve whatever issues you have, but I have little faith. Regardless of that, I very much wish to see more from

Before the split, I was thinking two things: (1) the show should change the name to reflect the duo (2) I was hoping that the success wouldn't make both of you insufferable! I was feeling that Jared was getting too pushy.

Facts:

1. FKP is big now (over 1,000,000 page hits);
2. Jared's youtube channel has over 20,000 subscribers;
3. After this success, Fro goes crazy;
4. Jared censored (direct or indirect via website admin/moderator ) many users point of view;
5. Jared goes for Dictator thing, and it seems to like that. Oh, "Gizzy bring me the juice", "x" bring me the donuts, etc;
6. Greg has different opinions vs Jared
7. Money is Money

PS Gizzy, you are the "juice man" if you do not know that for now ;)

Now that I've seen both videos and read all posts regarding this matter I'm definitely more partial to Greg, even though I only enjoyed a fraction of their time together (which I'm sure was terrific most of the time).

Greg comes across more sincere and I don't think he's acting here.
Jared on the other hand pushed a bit too hard in the last weeks, coining egomaniacal terms like "Fro-ing".

I don't have the slightest idea what brought both apart but sometimes minuscule things are getting worse over time and explode eventually - however unjust to one party.

*Not* knowing why one gets booted (returning the keys - no less) is just not acceptable, IMHO, and I would've pursued this to the end before making a public statement.

Whatever the truth - I hope both return to what they can do best:
- Greg teaching us
- Jared making fat jokes and selling T-shits ;-)

All the best to you!

This doesn't surprise me, I had a bad interaction w/ Jared that gave me a little insight into his poor business practices. I ordered the 3 Fro shirt special in January. After a few weeks I emailed asking when I'd get them. No response. Asked again a week later, told to chill and wait, they're on the way. Asked again a week after that, he accuses me of trying to steal from him because I must have received the shirts by now. I ended up having to file a dispute with PayPal in order to get my money back for the shirts I never received.

All this is too bad Greg, I enjoyed your participation on his site.

Jared never thought he would be seeing all of this negative stuff thrown at him. He didn't realize that we tolerated his sniff tests, and grandma videos, and fro-vader stuff just to get to the INFO that was usually supplied by Greg. He really lost me at fro-ing. That's when I knew that he was loving himself too much. Here's what I learned from Jared: how to sniff a box, and pump up the contrast to 100%. That's pretty much about it. I was starting to doubt my decision on buying my Nikon because of their recommendation. Until I realized that Greg shoots with Nikon also so I guess it's ok.

Hey all, most of us (90% on here) dont like what Jared did I am one BUT I will say this.. the posts are getting a little bit harsh when you read them.. ok Jared may have mental problems etc (maybe that is why he is still at home) and I dont beleive we should be mentioning Lil as she is more than likely not aware of any of this and probably will never be as she has to be looked after.
As for Jared himself, lets just let him do his thing and see how far he gets, I honestly cannot see the FKP site being busy for much longer except the replies in the latest thread.. I would hate to see people asking Greg why he has people commenting in a somwhat bad manner to some guy called jared/fro on Gregs site.. remember we all want is the best for Greg, so lets keep it clean so Gregs site can grow and we can get him (hopefully) to do his thing on here... as someone said, hope Gizzy will team up, then again Gizzy has been missing, Greg seems to be coping great..

I think it's all bad what has happened. Who's fault is THAT though? It's the almighty Fro's fault. So what if some people have harsh comments about Jared. He asked for them! Greg listened to people and can take criticism easily. Jared can't and will delete anything he doesn't like. It's a control problem of his and just another in the long list. Now I don't care if someone wants to act like Jared but I do have a problem with exploiting your grandmother and your mother's battle with cancer just to gain attention and fans = money. It's downright disgusting. People "put up" with crap like his ego, sniff tests, and "froing" because they liked photography and could learn... from Greg mostly. Jared isn't any more talented than the average photographer and his editing is very bad. He has no technical knowledge of photography because that isn't what it's all about. It's all about HIM. He thinks he's the star when really photography is the star. I will support likable people like Greg first.
